Spring is in the air and in eastern North Carolina the pollen season is almost over. It's time to do a little spring cleaning and maintenance to keep your home in tip top condition and reduce your ongoing operating costs. We recommend the following maintenance tasks for spring:
Chem wash the exterior of your home to remove pollen, mold and dirt
Clean all exterior lights and ceiling fans
Replace your HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) filters
Check smoke detectors and replace batteries for non-hardwired detectors
Examine attic for any evidence of leaks, rodent or insect intrusion and for proper ventilation
Confirm dryer vent is free of lint build-up and confirm proper air flow
Inspect crawl space for evidence of any visible electrical, plumbing or HVAC problems
Inspect visible areas of foundation walls, vents and ducts for cracks, leaks or blockages
Check moisture level in wood under home
Inspect roof for damaged, loose or missing shingles
Check flashing around roof stacks, vents and skylights for leaks
Check chimney for deteriorating mortar and bricks
Examine chimney for evidence of leaks and rodent/insect intrusion
Every few years, we recommend having these additional maintenance services performed:
Wash and wax windows inside and out
Clean out gutters and wash gutter facings
Chem-wash decks and boardwalks
Chem-wash roof
Chem-wash driveway and sidewalks
Repaint home exterior
Pump septic tank, if applicable
Flush water heater
We recommend having an annual service contract for your HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) system that includes at least one annual check-up.
